Transforming how South Dakota Homeschool Families Use Dual Credit, College, and Trade School Programs to Serve Their Families and Communities

This model of education takes advantage of both university accreditation, while also creating a deeply formational, local learning community where love for Christ, love for people, and love for place flourish.

What is a Christian Hall?

A Private Christian Hall bridges the gap between accredited degrees from online university programs, and the formational power of local wisdom and mentorship.

We based this model on the Oxford University college tutorial system, in which:

  • First, students join a Private Hall in their local community, where they will attend weekly tutorials led by their parents, mentors, and community leaders.

  • Then, Hall Members enroll in classes and degree programs from a university partner.

  • Day-to-Day, students participate in online lectures, private research, hand-on experiences, and small-group academic discussion with their local tutors.

All Christian Halls are united by a deep commitment to Christ-centered human formation, local self-governance, and the flourishing of their families and civic spaces.

Christian Halls International with Homeschool South Dakota are building a growing network of collegiate learning communities designed to serve South Dakota with college education that is local, affordable, and Christ-centered. We believe this is the natural next step of the homeschool movement: continuing family-based education through apprenticeship, tutorials, and deep local integration of faith, family, and community.

Our affiliated Halls provide:

  • college degrees and trade-based apprenticeships from accredited partner universities that align with our values

  • small-group, tutorial-based instruction

  • work-study, internship, and skilled-trades apprenticeship opportunities

Higher Education Programs for South Dakota Homeschool Families

our Study programs address the critical needs of South Dakota. These are some of the programs you can join or build locally.

  • Christian Community College

    If you’re considering attending a community college, whether as a transfer student or as a full degree-seeking student, Christian Halls offers a conservative, affordable, Christian alternative. Pair university class credits and degree programs with local tutorials.

    Degrees include a large selection of undergraduate and graduate degrees.

  • Skilled Trade Pathways

    This design is focused on developing spiritually-formed and skilled professionals who serve Christ and their communities. Local tradespeople guide students through hands-on practicum work, supplemented by online coursework for their specific field.

    Programs include licensure, certificates and degrees in HVAC, Plumbing, Construction Technology, Electrical, and more.

  • Civics Hall

    Our Civic Leadership program exists to train local leaders in governance, public administration, political studies, and civics.

    Degree including undergraduate and graduate degrees in criminal justice, law, public administration, campaign management, and political science.

  • Theological College

    While all CHI programs are deeply rooted within the Christian intellectual tradition, we also offer focused programs in Bible, Theology, and Ministry Training.

    Degrees include BA, MA, THM, MDIV, DMIN, and PHD programs from a selection of universities and seminaries from across the Christian faith traditions.

  • Honors College

    In this hall design, students study the great texts within the liberal arts tradition. It’s a perfect fit for students who have graduated from a classical high school education, and seek to continue their studies within the Great Conversation.

    Undergrad and graduate degrees include Great Books, Liberal Arts, Philosophy, and the History of Western Thought.

  • Teacher College

    The CHI Teacher College program serves as a fully accredited, State Authorized teacher training. We envision generations of teachers from and for South Dakota, deeply rooted in the American and Christian intellectual tradition.

  • Business and Entrepreneurship College

    South Dakota has a long tradition of entrepreneurship, work-ethic, and world-class commerce. The Business and Entrepreneurship Hall focuses on developing the next generation of business owners and leaders across the State.

    Black Hills Collegiate offers classical instruction, with a special focus on the Liberal Arts, and on offering the Black Hills a conservative, affordable community college alternative.
